Many investment books include a chapter or two on investment performance measurement or focus on a single aspect, but only one book addresses the breadth of the field. Investment Performance Measurement is a comprehensive guide that covers the subjects of performance and risk calculation, attribution, presentation, and interpretation. This information-packed book covers a wide range of related topics, including calculation of the returns earned by portfolios; measurement of the risks taken to earn these returns; measurement of the risk and return efficiency of the portfolio and other indicators of manager skill; and much more. By reviewing both the concepts of performance measurement and examples of how they are used, readers will gain the insight necessary to understand and evaluate the management of investment funds. Investment Performance Measurement makes extensive use of fully worked examples that supplement formulas and is a perfect companion to professional courses and seminars for analysts. Bruce J. Feibel, CFA, is Product Manager at Eagle Investment Systems, an investment management software provider located in Newton, Massachusetts. He is responsible for overseeing the development of Eagle's investment performance measurement, attribution, and AIMR/GIPS compliance software. Prior to joining Eagle, Mr. Feibel was a principal at State Street Global Advisors. He earned his BS in accounting from the University of Florida.

Introductory Econometrics A Modern Approach

Practical and professional, Wooldridge’s INTRODUCTORY ECONOMETRICS: A MODERN APPROACH, 4e bridges the gap between how undergraduate econometrics has traditionally been taught and how empirical researchers actually think about and apply econometric methods. The text’s unique approach reflects how econometric instruction has evolved from simply describing a set of abstract recipes to showing how econometrics can be used to empirically study questions across a variety of disciplines. The systematic approach, where assumptions are introduced only as they are needed to obtain a certain result, makes the material easier for students, and leads to better econometric practice. Unlike traditional texts, INTRODUCTORY ECONOMETRICS is organized around the type of data being analyzed -- an approach that simplifies the exposition and allows a more careful discussion of assumptions. Packed with relevant applications and a wealth of interesting data sets, the text emphasizes examples that have implications for policy or provide evidence for or against economic theories. Controversy and Consensus Nuclear Beta Decay 1911 1934

In 1920s, a long-lasting controversy on the interpretation of nuclear beta spectrum arose between Lise Meitner and Charles Drummond Ellis. This controversy, and the reactions from the contending parties when it was settled, reflect clearly the difference between the scientific communities in Berlin and Cambridge at that time. The Meitner-Ellis controversy ended in 1929, and it left an anomaly that attracted leading theoretical physicists. A new dispute, this time between Niels Bohr and Wolfgang Pauli, broke out. It concerned the explanation of the continuity of the primary beta particles and dominated the discussions for the next five years. Pauli argued for a new particle, and Bohr for a new theory; both suggestions were radical steps, but they reflected two different ways of doing physics.
