Second Chance speaks to the vulnerability of the widowed and divorced baby boomers' loneliness, but not in a depressing way. Many are active, normal, healthy, decent men and women with children and grandchildren, yet many are lonely. Infused with humor, Second Chance is funny, charming, poignant, and real. In the Adirondack Mountains Spa Village Resort, in Upstate New York, a good mix of African American and Caucasian Baby Boomers meet the match that was chosen for them to participate in a ten-day organized matchmaking event. Each one has traveled a different path in life. Each one has a unique story. The story centers on Janet, a divorced Pharmaceutical Sales Executive whose path had left her an emotional cripple. Janet could not accept the match that was carefully chosen for her. Through a bond of friendship forged out of adversity Janet struggled to heal her wounds. She soon became unhinged after arriving at the resort and was left with no choice but to walk away from the event. She would learn to heal and love herself and find the kind of relationship that had evaded her entire adult life. Neile Proeser is a fifty-eight-year-old divorced mother of two grown daughters and four grandchildren. Before moving to The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia where she works in Hospital Administration, Neile worked as a Scriptwriter in a local radio station in her native country of Barbados. Neile enjoys traveling throughout the vast desert Kingdom, the Mediterranean, Middle East and Far East.

How does a country reconstitute itself as a functioning democracy after a period of dictatorship? The new community may execute, imprison, or temporarily disenfranchise some citizens, but it will be unable to exclude all who supported the fallen regime. Political reconciliation must lay the groundwork for political trust. Democracy offers the compromised--and many who were more than just compromised--a second chance. In this new book, Anne Sa'adah explores twentieth-century Germany's second chances. Drawing on evidence from intellectual debates, trials, literary works, controversies about the actions of public figures, and partisan competition, Sa'adah analyzes German responses to the problem of reconciliation after 1945 and again after 1989. She depicts the frustrations, moral and political ambiguities, and disappointments inherent to even successful processes of democratization. She constantly underscores the difficult trade-off between achieving a modicum of justice and securing the legitimacy and stability of the new regime. A strategy of reconciliation emphasizing outward conformity to democratic norms and behavior, she argues, has a greater chance of sustaining a new and fragile democracy than do more direct attempts to punish past misdeeds and alter people's inner convictions.

"Avalin Summers's life changes forever when she is told her parents may not be dead. " In the romantic suspense novel "Second Chance," Karina Harris weaves an intriguing tale of hope and uncertainty in the story of Avalin Summers, an art student who is fiercely loyal to her older brothers, Jaden and Quinn. When Jaden requests a family meeting at their childhood farm in Colorado, she doesn't question him. But what she discovers is something she hasn't dared to dream about for the past five years. Special Agent Ian Martin has spent a year investigating the case of part-time FBI operatives John and Rosemary Summers and the suspicious conclusion to their last mission. Recent intelligence hints they may not have died in the European plane crash, but he needs the help of the Summerses' grown children, Jaden, Quinn, and twenty-one-year-old Avalin, to find out. At the family meeting, Ian presents evidence that suggests their parents may have escaped capture and fled to Portugal. The siblings' lives are turned upside down when they learn their parents were working as undercover agents. Hoping they are alive, Quinn and Avalin eagerly join Ian in his search. When they land in Lisbon, they are bombarded with even more uncertainties. Thrown together by circumstances fraught with danger, betrayal, and heartache, Ian and Avalin uncover something special in each other. As events unfold, Ian and Avalin begin to question their beliefs in their government, their families, and even God as they look for someone they can trust. Will they find love on their journey together? Will they discover what happened to the Summerses' parents before it's too late? Find out in "Second Chance," a Summers Saga novel.
