Leon Ehrenpreis has been one of the leading mathematicians in the twentieth century. His contributions to the theory of partial differential equations were part of the golden era of PDEs, and led him to what is maybe his most important contribution, the Fundamental Principle, which he announced in 1960, and fully demonstrated in 1970. His most recent work, on the other hand, focused on a novel and far reaching understanding of the Radon transform, and offered new insights in integral geometry. Leon Ehrenpreis died in 2010, and this volume collects writings in his honor by a cadre of distinguished mathematicians, many of which were his collaborators.

This volume contains the proceedings of the AMS Special Session on Radon Transforms and Geometric Analysis, in honor of Sigurdur Helgason's 85th Birthday, held from January 4-7, 2012, in Boston, MA, and the Tufts University Workshop on Geometric Analysis on Euclidean and Homogeneous Spaces, held from January 8-9, 2012, in Medford, MA. This volume provides an historical overview of several decades in integral geometry and geometric analysis as well as recent advances in these fields and closely related areas. It contains several articles focusing on the mathematical work of Sigurdur Helgason, including an overview of his research by Gestur Olafsson and Robert Stanton. The first article in the volume contains Helgason's own reminiscences about the development of the group-theoretical aspects of the Radon transform and its relation to geometric analysis. Other contributions cover Radon transforms, harmonic analysis, Penrose transforms, representation theory, wavelets, partial differential operators on groups, and inverse problems in tomography and cloaking that are related to integral geometry. Many articles contain both an overview of their respective fields as well as new research results. The book demonstrates the development of integral geometry on domains of homogeneous spaces since 1990. It covers a wide range of topics, including analysis on multidimensional Euclidean domains and Riemannian symmetric spaces of arbitrary ranks as well as recent work on phase space and the Heisenberg group. Wenn auf diesen Seiten, die ihr gewidmet sind, von meiner Frau recht wenig die Rede sein wird, heißt das nicht, daß sie in meinem Leben und in meinen Gedanken einen geringen Platz eingenommen hätte. Sie war im Gegenteil, beinahe vom Tag unserer ersten Begegnung an, so eng damit verwoben, daß von mir oder von ihr zu sprechen ein und dasselbe ist. Ihre Anwesenheit beziehungsweise ihre Abwesenheit bestimmte die Textur meines ganzen Lebens. Als Kinder waren wir unzertrennlich, aber ich war der große Bruder und sie die kleine Schwester. Später waren wir selten zusammen, und meist sprachen wir in scherzhaftem Ton miteinander, denn sie hatte ein fröhliches und humorvolles Naturell, wie alle, die sie kannten, bestätigt haben.
