The world as it is viewed from modern physics and cosmology has many strange and unexpected features. Often these are in stark contrast with our everyday experience or our preconceptions, such as the concept of space and time as finite and changeable. Nevertheless it is this strange world which is the fundamental basis of our existence. Therefore modern science also has a few things to say about the age-old questions: Who are we? – Where do we come from? – Where are we going? The author, an experienced scientist and teacher, presents the knowledge that we have about our world for non-experts. He takes us on a journey through cosmology and the quantum world of elementary particles. And he sketches the impact of the insights gained into philosophical assumptions and religious beliefs in these disciplines. In the end he asks the speculative question whether there is something beyond the limits of the natural sciences.

This book is written for the present day. It is meant to bring a message of hope and faith to all mankind at a time of great unrest on the earth. Due to our great technology, the World Wide Web can send any message to millions of us. My greatest concern is its most recent and dire predictions of an apocalyptic event set to occur on December, 21, 2012; the time of a rare celestial event and the end of the Mayan calendar. This calendar was started thousands of years ago, it is of a cycle of time now coming to a close and a new cycle beginning - Mayans agree with this. This book gives explanation to what these cycles are and the effect they have on our world. The ability of the web and media to reach the masses with messages like this "proved or not" can cause unprecedented panic. It is my intention to quell fear, to bring hope and faith and a greater understanding of our Creator, his lower and higher heavens and his plans for us. Mary Janse

The three most pervading questions asked by a majority of rational people are: ~~ How did I get here? ~~ Why am I here? ~~ What is my destiny? The author in his quest for answers to these questions has been induced to offer his discoveries in the writing of this book. It is my most sincere wish that perhaps many seeking souls might gain some insight into their search for answers to these all encompassing questions found in their lives, especially during these times of much uncertainty that our world seems to have gone mad. The author is persuaded that he has found answers for profound questions and solace in his daily search of the Holy Scriptures, in addition to the opinions found in the writing of scholars, theologians, philosophers and scientists. ~~ Neighl L Groh During the first forty years of my life, I lived as a nominal Christian despite the fact that I was impressively taught the importance of Christian living by my parents starting at a very early age. My mother commenced teaching my five sisters, my brother and me very early in our lives that we must follow, love and receive the Lord Jesus and accept Him as our personal Savior. In the early 1960's I met a group of Christ loving men that changed my attitude and I developed an unquenchable thirst for a much broader knowledge of God's plan and purpose for my life. Starting at the age of forty and continuing until my present age of eighty-five years, I have made it a practice to read the Old Testament once and the New Testament twice each year.

Origins and Grand Finale presents an in-depth study of how modern science and astronomy compare to the biblical narrative of the origin of the universe as well as the origin of life. Distinguishing between scientific facts and fairy-tales, as well as biblical facts and poetry, author Gary Haitel attempts to build a perfect harmony between science and theology. In Origins and Grand Finale, Haitel is not proposing new scientific theories. Instead, he merely examines current scientific theories, however bizarre they may seem, and explains how they relate to the biblical narrative. The second part of this guide focuses primarily on biblical end times and the abuse of political authority. In the third part, Haitel reflects upon not only the finale of humanity as described in the Bible, but also the finale of an individual's physical life here on earth and what to expect after the body returns to the dust of the earth. Are we just complex biological accidents, or are we immortal spiritual eternal beings? Written in a straightforward, down-to-earth fashion, Origins and Grand Finale offers a unique opportunity to understand the perfect harmony between science and theology.

The past quarter-century has seen an explosion of interest in the history of science and religion. But all too often the scholars writing it have focused their attention almost exclusively on the Christian experience, with only passing reference to other traditions of both science and faith. At a time when religious ignorance and misunderstanding have lethal consequences, such provincialism must be avoided and, in this pioneering effort to explore the historical relations of what we now call "science" and "religion," the authors go beyond the Abrahamic traditions to examine the way nature has been understood and manipulated in regions as diverse as ancient China, India, and sub-Saharan Africa. Science and Religion around the World also provides authoritative discussions of science in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam -- as well as an exploration of the relationship between science and the loss of religious beliefs. The narratives included in this book demonstrate the value of plural perspectives and of the importance of location for the construction and perception of science-religion relations.
